The stationery market –
changes ahead?

With Amazon UK's recent emergence into the B2B stationery market we have taken the opportunity to compare PEPCO's supplier Lyreco with the online retailer to see how they stack up.

Lyreco opened their first retail store in 1926 and turned their focus to supplying stationery products to the business market just after the 2nd World War. They launched their first catalogue in 1959 and took the business online in 2000.

By comparison a relative newcomer to the market Amazon launched in the UK in 1998, initially selling books, adding their office supplies store in 2009. In March 2017 Amazon moved into B2B office supplies.

So how do they compare?
We took a look at some of the features that are included under PEPCO's group agreement with Lyreco versus the current offering from Amazon Business*.

In summary the key functional differentiators Lyreco appear to have over Amazon business are stability of pricing (with Amazon the less you buy the more you pay), greater flexibility for ordering, and improved cash flow management through a credit account. From a customer care and service perspective Lyreco are delivering a completely different experience and pride themselves on their ability to provide their customer base with consultancy, support and new ideas.
